Prof. (Dr.) Sundeep Mishra: An Eminent Leader in Cardiology and Medical Education

Prof. (Dr.) Sundeep Mishra is recognized as one of India’s leading interventional cardiologists, trained at the world-renowned Washington Hospital Center, DC, USA. With over 30 years of experience and extensive expertise in clinical cardiology, heart failure, and interventional cardiology, he is currently the Vice-Chancellor (President) at Nims University, Jaipur, Rajasthan, and the Director of the Institute of Cardiac Sciences at NIMS University Hospital and Nims Heart and Brain Hospital.

Dr. Mishra’s illustrious career began with his MBBS from SMS Medical College, Jaipur, followed by an MD in Medicine from the University of Delhi. He completed his DM in Cardiology from AIIMS Delhi and pursued a Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Washington Hospital Center, USA.

Before joining Nims University Rajasthan, Jaipur, Prof. Mishra dedicated 30 years to AIIMS New Delhi, where he held key positions such as Director Professor of Cardiology and Officer-in-Charge of the Cath Lab. His tenure at AIIMS was marked by numerous leadership roles including Audit Officer of the Cardio-Neuro Center, Officer-in-charge of the Coronary Intervention Purchase Committee, and International Student Committee.

Leadership and Contributions

Prof. Mishra has held prestigious positions such as Chairman of the National Intervention Council of India (Angioplasty Society of India), Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Heart Journal, Joint Secretary of the Cardiological Society of India (CSI), and General Secretary of CSI Delhi. Internationally, he has served on the Board of Trustees of SCAI USA, the Editor of Catheterization & Cardiovascular Interventions, and as an ambassador and mentor for various global cardiology forums.

He has been pivotal in organizing major cardiology symposiums and sessions, such as the AIIMS Healthy Food Symposium and TCT India. His roles in international committees and societies underscore his influence and commitment to advancing cardiology worldwide.

Research and Innovations

Dr. Mishra has pioneered several cardiology innovations in India, including Virtual Histology and Experimental Angiogenic Gene Therapy. He developed the Rat Hind Limb Model of Ischemia and has been involved in numerous groundbreaking research studies and clinical trials, such as the SPIRIT V Study, ISCHEMIA trial, ATLAS ACS 2 TIMI 51 trial, and many more.

With over 200 manuscripts and research abstracts to his name, his contributions to medical literature are significant. His books, “Cath Lab Practicals Manual” and “Recent Research & Analysis in Cardiology,” are best-sellers and essential resources for cardiology professionals.

Prof. Mishra’s excellence has been recognized globally with several prestigious awards. These include the “Young Leader Award” by CRT, Washington DC, USA, Best Academician Award by Tamil Nadu CSI, Visionary Leader of the Year 2022 by CEGR, India, and many others. His accolades also include the 12th International Human Rights Award for “Eminent Social Reformer-Healthcare” and the Distinguished Alumni Award by SMS Medical College, Jaipur.

Professional Engagements and Collaborations

Prof. Mishra is actively involved with various professional and scientific societies, including the Cardiological Society of India (CSI) and its Delhi chapter. He serves as an India Session Coordinator at K Imaging, Korea, and an assessor with the National Medical Council (NMC) and National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences.

His international engagements include roles with the SCAI International Committee, EuroPCR, TCT, APSIC, and the Asia Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology. He has organized and led numerous sessions at global cardiology conferences, fostering international collaborations and knowledge exchange.
